To help battle the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines, SM Foundation (SMFI), the social good arm of the SM Group of companies, turned over today the first tranche of its allocated Php 100M donation to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
Dr. Gerardo Legazpi, director of PGH, together with his team, expressed their gratitude to the SM Group and Sy family in a video, as they received the cash donation. The donation will be used toward acquiring urgently-needed personal protective equipment (PPEs), test kits, alcohol, and other medical supplies.
Aside from the PGH, the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and other government hospitals nationwide are also set to receive help from the SM Group, through SM Foundation, to fight this ongoing crisis of COVID-19 in the country.
In a statement, SM Prime’s Hans Sy said, “To ensure the safety of medical frontliners, SM is bringing in personal protective equipment (PPE) - face masks, gowns, visors, hoods, gloves, and shoe covers, as well as urgent medical supplies to help government hospitals who badly need them.”
The whole SM Group enjoins the public to continue supporting the brave front line volunteers in their collective efforts to contain the COVID-19.
