Goo Goo Dolls Live in Manila February 2017

Valentine's Day has gone past and the month of February is coming to an end too so I might as well hurry up and post this.

Goo Goo Dolls Live in Manila February 2017

Pre-Show

I have no idea if there was any pre-concert event but before the show, we were just outside and took a fast meal through one of those affordable food stalls right in front of the coliseum.

I always come early to shows like this to avoid possible unexpected traffic.

Yes, the food is a bit oily but I needed a hot soup to wake me up. I'm always needing sleep before concerts. Too excited each time, I guess.

But I was late for the tickets again. Hence, I saw heads, hands and phones most of the time throughout the show. I struggled to get a good view (see first photo above).

Concert Proper

It was Goo Goo Doll's first ever show in the Philippines and first time in the country for John Rzeznik. Sometime during the show, Robby Takac mentioned how it took them 20 years to get here and promised not to take another 30 years before coming back.

They performed about 26 songs, if my counting is right. This is probably the most number of songs I've seen for a foreign act (so far).

Both John and Robby performed on the vocals. There were background stories shared about some of the songs too. I was able to record and share almost all of the songs. The playlist is on YouTube (next section).

Goo Goo Dolls Live in Manila Videos

So these are the videos I was able to get; not outstanding but at least there's something I can remember from the event.

Goo Goo Dolls Live in Manila in Pictures

Since I hardly saw any from the 16th row, most of the photos were poorly taken too. But I'm happy that at least I had some saved.

The first photo was taken before the show started.

Not quite noticeable but on the left side of the stage were several guitars. The band, mostly John Rzeznik, used all of them throughout the show. I assume that each guitar was pre-tuned to different keys so each song performed were of differing keys.

They're definitely not the usual mainstream rock band with easy tracks for sure.

The next one was before the program culminated. John sounded surprised and chuckled a little somewhere within the song when this happened.

This one was right after the show. Prior to that, the band did come back after the usual crowd cheer of "more, more, more!" Upon returning, John joked about how we knew they will come back anyway.

The rest of the photos were on this Facebook page album.

Tour Members

Other than John and Robby (who had been part of Goo Goo Dolls since 1986, other members who played include:

Korel Tunador - vocals, saxophone, keyboards, and other instruments
Brad Fernquist - guitar
Craig Macintyre – drums

In this video, the introductions start at time stamp 3:20. John was very witty with words while introducing their touring members. He was actually very funny throughout the concert.

Till next time. God willing.
